Pine Valley Elementary Receives $150,000 Technology Grant

On April 12, 2005, Central Elementary was awarded an Enhancing Education Through Technology competitive grant for technology rich classrooms.  The grant was in the amount of $150,000, which will be spent on making the four 5th grade classrooms abundant in technological resources.

The grant is designed to give students the opportunity to broaden their horizons and learn more through programs designed for reading, math, and science.  With these new programs students will be able to learn more with the use of technology and ensure that every student is technology literate by the end of 8th grade.  The grant is also designed to help every student regardless of race, ethnicity, income, geographical location, or disability.

The goals of this grant are to:

  • Develop technology skills and knowledge for participating teachers.
  • Foster a student-centered learning environment through the use of technology.
  • Increase utilization of technology for content-rich pedagogy in math, reading, and science.
  • Empower teachers to grow and sustain a technology rich environment.

Once Pine Valley Elementary has purchased the equipment it needs for the classrooms, a facilitator will come and spend 20 hours a week with the students and teachers helping them with the new software.  This grant will help both students and teachers in the ways of learning and teaching.  The classrooms will be enriched with the technology over the summer and will be ready for students as school starts next August.

Congratulations and good luck with your new equipment.
